Sunday Worship Experience
What should I expect when I visit Powell Valley Church?
That’s a great question! Below you’ll find the answers to the most common questions.
WHAT’S YOUR DRESS CODE?
You might want to sit down for this…here it is…wear some clothes. That is our dress code. The dress of those who attend PVC on Sundays is casual. Come as you are, just as you are.
WHAT’S THE MUSIC LIKE?
The music is a mix between “contemporary” and “traditional.” “Contemporary” meaning worship songs produced by artists such as Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman and Hillsong. “Traditional” meaning well-known hymns such as “It is Well,” “Amazing Grace,” “Victory in Jesus,” and the like. We play more contemporary than traditional, but we do not neglect the traditional.
WHAT’S THE PREACHING/TEACHING LIKE?
Each and every Sunday you can expect a solid, biblical message from the Bible in a way that anyone can understand. Pastor Jamie prepares every message with three things in mind that, if applied by the hearer, reaps the blessing of spiritual growth and maturity. He encourages you to E.A.T.
1. Explanation: Pastor Jamie will explain the meaning of the Scripture(s) and support all biblical principles and doctrines with Scripture(s).
2. Application: Pastor Jamie will encourage you to apply what you’ve learned to your daily life. Not only that, but he will actually explain “how” you can go about applying these principles to your daily life. Application is key to the last thing, which is the most needed thing.
3. Transformation: Once Scripture is explained, we are taught “how” to apply it to our lives, and we intentionally by faith apply it to our lives, then transformation will occur. Your life will change…you will change.
If you don’t know the Bible very well (or not at all) or don’t own a Bible, that’s OK. If you need one, feel free to ask our volunteer at the Information Center and we will provide one for you. Pastor Jamie preaches from the same Bible that is in every pew. As he mentions a Scripture, he also announces the page number on which that Scripture is found, so everyone can follow along.
ARE ELECTRONIC BIBLES WELCOME OR “FROWNED UPON”?
Many people use the Bible on their tablet or smart phone. Don’t be shy. If that’s what you use or want to use, then use it. In fact, here’s a link to a FREE Bible for your device that includes every translation in almost every language. CLICK ME FOR A FREE BIBLE!
DO YOU HAVE A CHILDREN’S MINISTRY AND NURSERY?
Absolutely. Your child will not only have a BLAST on Sunday mornings, but your child will learn biblical stories and principles. Our TrueLife Children volunteers also encourage and assist in the making of new friends. Mission: No Child Left Out!
WHERE CAN I LEARN MORE ABOUT THE MINISTRIES HERE AT POWELL VALLEY?
Great question. You can contact our Main Office throughout the week; however, on Sunday mornings visit our Information Center located at the front entrance of the church. A volunteer will be there to assist you and answer any questions you may have.
WHERE CAN I LEARN MORE ABOUT SERVING ON MY TERMS? NO GETTING “ROPED-IN” FOREVER!
We completely understand how people can volunteer to help in a given area and are expected never to leave! Don’t worry. We wouldn’t do that to you. We actually encourage most volunteers to serve a maximum of two Sundays per month, so as to avoid burnout and the mis-opportunity to experience the Worship Experience with their family and friends. How often you serve is up to you. There’s more detail about serving on the CONNECT page.
If you have further questions about what to expect on Sunday mornings, please feel free to contact us at any time by phone, email or through the contact form on the CONTACT US page.
